Eco-friendly furniture ranges
Following on from our blog about sustainable, eco-friendly upholstery options, we turn our focus to our furniture ranges.
Eco-friendly furniture should tick some of or all of the following:
- Made of sustainable materials that can be renewed rapidly. Eco-friendly materials also include recycled materials and wood from sustainable sources.
- No toxic chemicals or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are used in the production process.
- Produced in a resource-efficient manner.
- Non-toxic or minimal packaging materials are used.
- Minimal carbon footprint when shipping and delivering the furniture.
Protocol work with a number of manufacturers who demonstrate their commitment to sustainable design in various ways including; encouraging the use of recycled materials, avoiding the use of pollutants, placing importance on processes for waste materials, using wood from FSC certified forests and using plant-based varnishes.
Vondom are an outdoor furniture manufacturer and have introduced a collection called 'Vondom Revolution' which includes unique, exclusive and timeless pieces using sustainable, recycled and recyclable materials based on a firm commitment to innovation and the future. They have created collections through the transformation of recycled plastics from the sea, with fishing nets, waste plastics and plastic bottles being the primary materials.

Protocol also work with a large number of manufacturers who have FSC and PEFC certifications. The FSC system allows businesses and consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products made with materials from well-managed forests and/or recycled sources. The PEFC certification provides appropriate guarantee's to consumers that products certified in compliance with PEFC criteria arise from forest management practises, where the principles of sustainability based on three fundamental pillars are consistently applied: (1) Social (2) Environmental (3) Economic.
